Maine Behavioral Healthcare

Our History

Maine Behavioral Healthcare, a division of MaineHealth, was founded in 2014 by merging a network of behavioral healthcare organizations: Community Counseling Center (CCC), Counseling Services, Inc. (CSI), Mid-Coast Mental Health Center (MCMHC), Spring Harbor Community Services, and Spring Harbor Hospital. Previously, the network of these behavioral healthcare providers came together as Maine Mental Health Partners (MMHP) in 2008.

While mergers of healthcare organizations are not unusual, the new Maine Behavioral Healthcare is unique to our state and possibly even to the nation. No other behavioral health organization in Maine has the breadth, depth and reach of Maine Behavioral Healthcare, combining three large community mental health agencies with southern Maine’s only psychiatric hospital, all under the umbrella of the state’s largest integrated behavioral healthcare delivery system.

The new organization extends from Belfast in the north, to Norway in the west, to Springvale in the south. The promise of a regional and national model for high-quality, integrated, easily accessible and navigable behavioral health system that leads clients/patients to recovery, independence and dignity, is now a reality.

The ability to thrive in an increasingly competitive marketplace is our challenge. The delivery of a fully integrated behavioral healthcare system with easy access to care is our focus. We are getting closer every day.
