I currently serve as the Director of Congenital Cardiac Surgery at Maine Medical Center. Before coming to Maine, I served as the Director of Pediatric and Adult Congenital Surgery at Children’s Hospital of New Jersey in Newark, and I was an assistant professor at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, NYU Langone Medical Center, New York, NY. I completed a pediatric cardiac surgery fellowship at Stanford University Hospital, Palo Alto, CA; thoracic surgery residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, CO; and general surgery residency at NYU School of Medicine. My doctorate of medicine is from NYU School of Medicine. My clinical interests are focused on innovative surgical approaches to complex congenital heart defects, and I am committed to minimizing surgical trauma by employing minimal access approaches, valve repair or reconstruction to avoid artificial valve replacement whenever possible and hybrid procedures to reduce the number of surgeries a child with congenital heart disease will have to undergo. My interests have centered on optimizing neurologic outcomes in children undergoing heart surgery. I have investigated novel biomarkers to trend perioperative neurologic insults to identify potential neuroprotective strategies in pediatric cardiac surgery.
