Master Trainer Session Information

Master Trainer Sessions provide you with the information and materials to implement A Matter of Balance in your community. Training sessions are offered by MaineHealth – both virtually and in person. Please see the latest Master Trainer Session Schedule below for upcoming dates. 

In completing the training, you will become a Master Trainer certified to:

  • Recruit and train lay leader Coaches to lead A Matter of Balance (MOB) in-person as well as A Matter of Balance Virtual (MOB-V) classes
  • Market the program to older adults
  • Evaluate outcomes

The fee for a Master Trainer session is $2,000 + $65.00 shipping and handling per person. This includes:

  • 20 hour training
  • License to Use the Matter of Balance Program
  • Comprehensive curriculum materials for both in person Matter of Balance (MOB) and the Matter of Balance Virtual Translation (MOB-V)
  • Master Trainer Manual

Virtual training technology requirements

A laptop, desktop or large tablet with two way video and audio are required to register for the virtual Master Trainer Training. Cameras are expected to be on during the training. If your camera is off you will not receive your certification. Using a smart phone is allowed as a supplemental device only.

What qualities and experience do I need?

  • Experience and interest in working with older adults
  • Knowledge about the special needs of older adults
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with group process and facilitation
  • Comfort with teaching, leading group discussion and role play
  • Willingness to learn about and support the principles and protocols of evidence-based programs
  • Enthusiasm about being a member of a team
  • Dependability
  • Ability to use audiovisual equipment (TV/DVD, overhead projector)
  • Ability to perform range-of-motion and low-level endurance exercises and to demonstrate exercises
  • Ability to carry up to 20 pounds
  • Life experience valued with an education or health care background a plus
