Career Opportunities

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

CNAs are caregivers who provide patient assistance with activities of daily living and basic needs. CNAs are an instrumental part of our healthcare system.

  • Maine Medical Center Certified Nursing Assistant Apprenticeship - An eight-week, paid, CNA training program is sponsored by Maine Medical Center and Portland Adult Education.
  • LincolnHealth Certified Nursing Assistant - LincolnHealth currently offers a free, 10-week, CNA certification program in September, January and April each year. In addition to training, they offer a paid, CNA training program in partnership with the Maine Department of Labor.
  • Pen Bay Medical Center CNA Apprenticeship -  Pen Bay Medical Center offers a paid, CNA training program in partnership with the Maine Department of Labor. Pen Bay also supports payment of the CNA certificate program’s tuition in partnership with the Mid-Coast School of Technology’s nine-week, CNA certification program.

Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship

Medical assistant (MA) apprentices work directly with patients and learn skills ranging from taking vital signs to updating patient medical records. Upon graduation from this apprenticeship program, students are prepared to sit for the national accreditation examination to become a certified medical assistant (CMA or RMA).

Maine Medical CenterSouthern Maine Health Care and Southern Maine Community College offer a one-year, paid, medical assistant apprenticeship and training program. Employees of Maine Medical Center and Southern Maine Health Care may apply for sponsorship, which includes training and waived tuition fees. This is an official Maine Department of Labor apprenticeship program.

School of Surgical Technology

The Maine Medical Center School of Surgical Technology is a one-year program supported by Southern Maine Community College.This program provides motivated students the opportunity to learn about surgical devices, tools and procedures - as well as the importance of contributing to the efficiency of an operating room team. This role supports surgeons, nurses and others by performing functions that provide a safe environment for surgical care. Employees at some locations may be eligible to apply for sponsorship.

Phlebotomy School

The NorDx Phlebotomy School is a six-week, paid training program located in Scarborough, Maine. The school is designed to provide students with the clinical knowledge and skills necessary to become a certified Phlebotomist. Students will learn about:

  • Drawing blood for medical tests
  • Customer service skills
  • Explaining procedures to patients

Upon course completion, students are guaranteed an interview for employment within MaineHealth.
