Katherine Stoddard Pope, M.D.
Dr. Katherine S. Pope is an anesthesiologist with Spectrum Medical Group, a large multi-specialty private practice serving hospitals and health care facilities in Maine, including Maine Medical Center.
She received her undergraduate degree from Colby College with a major in English, her medical degree from the University of Vermont College Of Medicine, and her residency training in anesthesiology with a subspecialty focus in pediatric anesthesia at Maine Medical Center.
Although her professional training is in the field of anesthesiology, Dr. Pope has a strong interest in palliative and hospice care, was a co-founder of Hospice of Southern Maine, and chaired its board for several years. Dr. Pope also has a long-standing interest in international medical service, and over the past 20 years has been a volunteer on international medical mission trips to serve the indigent in developing countries in Asia, South America, and Africa.
Dr. Pope’s past community board service includes Maine Cancer Foundation, Maine Historical Society, Audubon Alaska, and the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. She also currently serves on the Board of Overseers at Colby College. In the past, she served on the board and as chair of the Legislative Committee of the Maine Medical Association. Dr. Pope also served for many years on the corporate board of Medical Mutual Insurance Company of Maine.
Honors and awards include the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Alumni Award for Service to Medicine and Community from the University of Vermont, Home Care Advocate of the Year Award from the Home Care and Hospice Alliance of Maine, the Champion award from the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine, and induction into the Deborah Morton Society at the University of New England.
