Westbrook, ME (March 6, 2017) – Mary Jane Krebs, FACHE, President of Spring Harbor Hospital, a division of Maine Behavioral Healthcare, has been selected for service on the 2017-2018 Technical Expert Panel (TEP) for the Inpatient Psychiatric Facility (IPF) Outcome and Process Measure Development and Maintenance Project.
In this role with the Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG), Krebs will join a panel of psychiatric experts to make recommendations on measurement criteria used by the National Quality Forum (NQF) to enhance patient outcomes and reduce hospital readmissions. According to the HSAG, People with alcohol use disorder or depression are underdiagnosed and have insufficient treatment options, while those afflicted with serious mental illness are at risk for readmission because of ineffective care transitions.
To address this growing concern, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has set national goals to improve behavioral health outcomes among patients, specifically in primary care settings and inpatient psychiatric facilities (IPFs). The HSAG works directly with physician offices and IPFs to improve behavioral health outcomes. “Mary Jane Krebs being selected to serve on one of the highest program review committees for psychiatry in the country to help determine the measures for inpatient psychiatry for CMS is truly an honor,” said Stephen Merz, FACHE, President and CEO of Maine Behavioral Healthcare.
