NORTH CONWAY, NH – The 5th Annual Memorial Hospital Fun Run at StoryLand attracted its biggest crowd yet with close to 400 kids running in the popular event at StoryLand. The event, organized in partnership with Believe in Books Literacy Foundation, is part of the hospital’s Let’s Go childhood health and wellness program. Memorial Hospital medical staff, employees and volunteers helped out at registration and on the race course with doctors handing out medals at the finish line alongside storybook characters Tinkerbell, Mother Goose, Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh.
Each year, Memorial Hospital invites local school-aged children to take part in the run to kick off to a school-year long initiative to bring the “Let’s Go” health and wellness education and activities to students throughout Mt. Washington Valley, funded by the proceeds of the Memorial Hospital Open Golf Tournament. While the race is open to all, local children received free admission to the race courtesy of the North Conway-based hospital. StoryLand generously donates the use of their park to the event each year.
“The event is a great example of how a community hospital can work with other non-profits and businesses in the Valley to bring the message of health and wellness to our kids. Attendance has built up each year and now many families are making it a Labor Day tradition. We are pleased to make this possible for our community and thank our partners Believe in Books and StoryLand for making it possible,” stated Memorial’s Vice President of Community Relations Kathy Bennett.
The event is geared to children ages 12 and younger. Runners received free admission to the popular theme park, as well as a race tee shirt, medals and other special gifts for taking part in a running race throughout Story Land.
