Maine Behavioral Healthcare Welcomes Dr. Cathleen Small as Key Leader in Autism and Developmental Disorders Service

WESTBROOK, MAINE – Spring Harbor Hospital, a division of Maine Behavioral Healthcare has hired Dr. Cathleen Small, PhD, BCBA-D as the Director of Behavioral Services and Spring Harbor Academy.

Dr. Small is a child psychologist and behavior analyst who was on the faculty at the Kennedy Krieger Institute of Johns Hopkins University for six years, serving as a Supervising Psychologist and Director of Clinical Operations for the Pediatric Developmental Disabilities Clinic. She is a graduate of Bowdoin College, earned a special education teaching degree from Northeastern University and trained in behavior analysis and psychology at the University of Kansas.

Prior to joining Spring Harbor Hospital, Dr. Small provided care through the Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics office of Maine Medical Partners.

Dr. Small will provide the leadership for Spring Harbor Academy, a special purpose private school that provides educational services for youth hospitalized in the Developmental Disorders Unit of Spring Harbor Hospital. She will also lead the behavior analysis team for the hospital unit, providing the highest level of care in Northern New England for youth with autism and other developmental disorders who are experiencing psychiatric and behavioral challenges.

Care for Children & Adolescents
The Developmental Disorders program is composed of inpatient services at Spring Harbor Hospital in Westbrook, Maine and outpatient services at the Center for Autism & Developmental Disorders (CADD) in nearby South Portland. Children at the hospital receive education from Spring Harbor Academy, a private, special-purpose school located on site.

Care for Adults
A wide range of support is offered to MaineCare eligible adults with intellectual disabilities at the Lancaster Street office in Portland. The program is licensed through the Office of Aging and Disability Services (OADS).
