LincolnHealth's Cove’s Edge, a facility that offers skilled rehabilitation and long-term care, was a recent recipient of the Standing Ovation Award for Workplace Excellence from LeadingAge, a national organization whose mission is to inspire senior living facilities to pursue innovation and the best life for older adults. Cove’s Edge was recognized for the innovative ways it has boosted employee satisfaction and engagement by focusing on fun.
“It all started by asking the simple question “What would make work more fun?” said Cheryl Dobbelsteyn, Executive Director of Cove’s Edge. “There was an overwhelming response, and the suggestion box was filled with ideas.”
The PEP Committee put together a list of events and encouraged employees to participate. Dress up days, prizes, raffles, potlucks, contests and “just plain silly” events have been supported by the staff and enjoyed by the residents of Cove Edge, who often join in the fun.
The idea of having fun at work has boosted morale and has helped Cove’s Edge recruit and retain employees. “It’s also helped staff build relationships, feel valued and believe that together, they can do anything,” Dobbelsteyn said.
