What is the Health Insurance Marketplace?

The Health Insurance Marketplace is where people can compare health coverage options and sign up for health insurance, as a result of the Affordable Care Act. More than 70,000 Mainers had health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace in 2017, and 86% received financial assistance to make the plans more affordable. 

When can I sign up for health insurance?

Open enrollment is from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15, 2017. It is the time to sign up! Coverage begins Jan. 1, 2018.

No monthly premiums when you qualify: For 2018 coverage, a lot of people qualify for a $0 monthly premium for a bronze plan (income under 225% of the Federal Poverty Level). For example, if you are single and your annual income is between $12,060 and $27,135, you may be able to get a bronze plan with no monthly premium.

Can I get help signing up for health insurance?

MaineHealth has team members at CarePartners and MedAccess. They are Certified Application Counselors, who help people review their options for health insurance, apply, and enroll through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
