Roy A Cobean, MD

I have been practicing in Portland since 1992. My focus and professional passion is advanced videoscopic surgery and other minimally invasive surgical techniques, including diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy as well as revision surgery. I enjoy offering my patients alternatives to conventional open surgery, including laparoscopic & robotic surgery, avoiding a hospital stay in many cases while achieving similar or better results. I have performed over 2600 laparoscopic & robotic antireflux operations & hiatal hernia repairs, over 250 laparoscopic Heller myotomies for achalasia, over 130 transoral Zenker’s diverticulum repairs, and over 2100 laparoscopic weight-loss operations.

Some of my certifications include Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery, Tufts University and instructor for Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Burn Life Support.

I have two grown sons with my wife, who is a practicing anesthesiologist.  I hold a private pilot license with a seaplane rating but lately only look skyward and talk about flying these days. I enjoy downhill skiing, sailboarding and playing musical instruments badly when I can find the time.
