James R Young, MD

During my medical residency on the psychiatry rotation at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY, I realized that I had an adept ability to listen and understand the issues of patients. It was then I decided on a career in psychiatry.

Throughout my years as a psychiatrist, I have done inpatient and outpatient therapy and psychopharmacology. With a special interest in posttraumatic stress disorder and psychosomatic medicine, my philosophy has been to listen, to attempt to meet the patient where they are emotionally, and help them know the underlying issues causing their distress so that we can develop a comprehensive wellness plan.

Currently, I practice outpatient psychiatry and psychopharmacology. I received my medical degree at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and completed my medical residency at the Family Medicine program at Highland Hospital Family Practice and psychiatry residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center, which included an emphasis in consultation-liaison psychiatry.

My professional experience includes Chief of Psychiatry and Medical Director, and also serving in administration as Vice President of Medical Affairs for a community hospital.
