What is geriatric mental health care?

Geriatric mental health care can consider changes in emotions, behavior, memory and other cognitive abilities. People may start to lose cognitive, motor, and sensory function as they age. They may begin to have challenges with everyday tasks. Many older adults have trouble doing things they used to be able to do easily.

Depression and geriatric mental health care

Older adults can develop depression as they experience life changes such as illness, decline in function and independence, or death of a partner. Older adult mental health services help people understand and better cope with life’s challenges during the aging process.
