What is substance abuse and addiction?

Substance abuse is the misuse of legal and illegal drugs and alcohol. Ask your health care provider what you can do if you believe you or a family member could be addicted to drugs. If you believe someone has overdosed on drugs call 911 immediately for help. Overdose can be fatal.
