Safe and Supportive Care by Trusted Health Professionals

Each school-based health center is staffed by professionals including; licensed clinical social workers (LCSW), nurse practitioners (NP) and a medical doctor (MD) who serves as medical director of operations.

Sometimes, children need to talk with someone who is unbiased, supportive and can offer a fresh perspective. While we encourage students to involve a parent or guardian in their care, questions that teens may have related to drug and alcohol use, mental health, sexually transmitted disease and family planning may not require parental notification or permission.

Behavioral health services are provided by licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) and other professionals who are placed directly on school campuses and can help with:

  • Relationship problems
  • Anger management
  • Alcohol or drug use
  • Academic struggles
  • Gender identity/sexuality concerns
  • Family issues
  • Self-esteem
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

Our team can help make referrals to doctors to help manage chronic illness or for other services a child or staff member may need that are not provided at the center. When needed, we connect students and families with other clinical and community services that are not provided at the school. SBHC staff can also help you find a primary care physician if you don’t have one.

Everyone is treated regardless of their ability to pay. We accept private health insurance, MaineCare and self-payment. If you don’t have insurance or have limited benefits, we’ll get you started with the applications for MaineCare or CarePartners.

School-based health center hours vary by location. Stop by during school hours or call 207-633-1934 for more information.

School Oral Health Program (SOHP)

With your permission, a health professional will provide a free oral health screening and apply a fluoride varnish treatment to help strengthen teeth, up to twice during the school year.
