Timothy L Fitzgerald

I am the Director of MMC’s Surgical Oncology program and lead a team that includes general surgical, thoracic, endocrine and breast oncological surgeons, as well as advanced practice providers. The division has a total of 17 providers dedicated to caring for cancer patients. Before arriving in Maine, I was Director of Gastrointestinal Oncology at East Carolina University, where I specialized in complex GI, HPB, robotic and soft tissue surgery. After medical school and surgical residency, I completed a fellowship in complex surgical oncology at the University of Toronto. I have published more than 120 abstracts and manuscripts, and my research interests include quality improvement, enhanced recovery and evidence-based practice. I was attracted to surgical oncology because it involves patient-centered, team-based care that is designed to cure or improve quality of life. I value the privilege of establishing long-term relationships with patients, often during the most difficult time in their life.
