We appreciate your interest in supporting the children at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. We are grateful for your donation as it helps us to provide a warm and welcoming environment to our patients and families. Donations assist with child life programming throughout the year and help us to provide therapeutic play activities, entertainment, distraction, prizes and birthday presents. For infection control reasons the following guidelines for donations apply:
Donations must be brand new, in original packaging, and have been stored in a clean and smoke-free environment
Due to hospital infection control and safety practices, we are only able to accept stuffed animals that are new and wrapped in original packaging. Stuffed animals MUST be individually wrapped in plastic. If you are considering donating stuffed animals, please contact the child life department to discuss.
We are a fragrance free environment and cannot accept items with a fragrance (i.e. lotions)
For a list of ideas please see our BBCH 2019 Wish List. If you are interested in making a donation or need tips or ideas, please contact the Child Life Supervisor at (207) 662-2424 or at email@example.com. Donations can be dropped off at the Information Desk at the front entrance of Maine Medical Center preferably Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM-5:00 PM.
Volunteers are vital to the Child Life Program and are based in the Child Life Center (also known as the playroom). Maybe you are retired and have extra time on our hands or a student wanting to learn more about the hospital environment. Maybe you work full-time but love to be around children and can give some time in the evenings or on a weekend. Our Volunteers help provide play opportunities for the children and maintain a safe environment where a kid can be a kid
With over 50 volunteers that help run our Child Life Center we are able to open our doors seven days a week. Volunteers play games, puzzles, and participate in arts and crafts. They also provide play opportunities at the bedside for children who are unable to get down to the playroom. To learn more about volunteering in the child Life Center, please contact Volunteer Services at 207-662-2205.
