Healthy Lifestyles - Diabetes Prevention

This free WOW! Health & Wellbeing program is available to all MaineHealth employees and spouses/partners who have a BMI greater than or equal to 24 (≥ 22 if Asian) and are at risk for developing pre-diabetes or have had a blood test within the past year indicating that they have pre-diabetes.

The Diabetes Prevention Program is a lifestyle change program for preventing type 2 diabetes. This 16-week program will help you make simple changes that may prevent the onset of diabetes.

What is the meeting format?

In a group setting, a trained coach will work with you to build the skills you need to lose weight, be more physically active and manage stress.

Am I at risk for pre-diabetes?

You may have pre-diabetes and be at risk for Type 2 diabetes if you:

  • Are 45 years of age or older
  • Are overweight
  • Have a family history of Type 2 diabetes
  • Are physically active fewer than 3 times per week
  • Ever had diabetes while pregnant (gestational diabetes) or gave birth to a baby that weighed more than 9 pounds
