Curriculum

Our curriculum is organized in a “4+2” block scheduling format, which features alternating blocks of 4 weeks (predominately inpatient service blocks, night float, consult rotations, and electives) and 2 weeks (predominately continuity clinic, outpatient medical specialties, quality improvement, administrative time, and vacation).

  • R1 Year: Addiction Medicine, Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Palliative Care, Hematology-Oncology, MHMMC-Portland Clinics (Urgent Care, Dermatology Clinic, International/Refugee Clinic)

     
  • R2 Year: Endocrinology, Hematology, Preble Street (Healthcare for the Unhoused Community), Infectious Diseases (including HIV, Hepatitis, and TB Clinics), Pulmonology, MHMMC-Portland Clinics (Urgent Care, Dermatology Clinic, International Clinic), Outpatient Electives

     
  • R3 Year: Cardiology, Hematology-Oncology, Gastroenterology, MHMMC-Portland Clinics (Urgent Care, Dermatology Clinic, International Clinic), Outpatient Electives

Continuity Clinic: Resident continuity clinic locations include MHMMC Portland, ,MaineHealth Primary Care – Internal Medicine - Westbrook and MaineHealth Primary Care – Internal Medicine - Scarborough.  Each resident has their own panel of patients as part of a larger three resident coverage team (one resident from each 4+2 “mini practice”).

Vacations: 4 weeks per year (one out of +4 and the other three from “+2 weeks”)

  • R2 Year: Evidence-Based Medicine
  • R3 Year: Patient Safety: Root Cause Analysis/M&M
