Residency Programs

Maine Medical Center (MMC) is an independent academic medical center serving our local diverse communities, as well as serving as a tertiary referral center for the entire state of Maine. MMC currently trains over 310 residents and fellows in our 15 ACGME-accredited residency programs, 15 ACGME-accredited fellowship programs and 3 rural tracks.

The robust clinical experience is supported by high-quality didactic sessions, dedicated faculty and simulation-based teaching at the Hannaford Simulation Center. Residents have ample opportunity and mentorship to pursue scholarly research projects, quality improvement projects and health care disparity projects within their training programs. MMC is committed to promoting well-being among our graduate medical education (GME) trainees.

A Long History of Innovation

MMC has a national reputation as a leader in interprofessional, team-based training with an ACGME- and AMA- grant funded “Interprofessional Partnership to Advance Care and Education (iPACE)” grant. MMC is the flagship hospital of the MaineHealth system and is dedicated to training residents and fellows in rural training centers across the state.

MMC is excited to announce the launch of four academic tracks to support residents and fellows who desire more specialized training during their residency program:

  1. Resident Research: 30-month longitudinal track for residents
  2. Clinical Informatics: 24-month longitudinal track for residents
  3. Resident Education and Leadership: (CELT): 24-month longitudinal track for residents
  4. Fellow Clinician Educator: 18-month longitudinal track for fellows
