Maine Medical Center's nurses and nursing support staff are among the best. As a Magnet designated hospital, American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) recognizes the value and role nursing staff have as a member of the patient care team in providing extraordinary patient care with exceptional outcomes. MMC recognizes and celebrates our nursing staff throughout the year.

Nursing Excellence

Our Nursing Excellence Awards recognize nurses who demonstrate leadership, patient advocacy, professionalism, collaboration/teamwork, community outreach, and who provide quality, exemplary safe patient and family centered care. Awards are given out in five categories

Nursing Research Award

Awarded annually to outstanding nursing clinical scholars whom make a significant contribution to the advancement of nursing science leading to a substantial positive effect on patient or professional outcomes.


Awarded monthly to a nurse who demonstrates exceptional caring and compassion. Patients, families, colleagues, and visitors may nominate a nurse. DAISY says, “Thank you!” and recognizes, honors and celebrates why nurses became a nurse – compassionate care and making a difference in patient’s lives. Peggy Farr Leadership Award

The Peggy Farr Award was developed to honor a long-time Maine Medical Center nurse. From staff nurse to nursing supervisor to pioneer of the Centralized Bed Management Program, Peggy Farr was known as a visionary leader and mentor. The annual Peggy Farr Leadership Award recognizes individuals who display exceptional leadership, institutional knowledge with a caring, can-do attitude and empowers others by living our Values every day.


The PETAL Award recognizes, rewards, and celebrates the special skills and compassionate care provided by our nursing support staff. The PETAL Award recipient demonstrates patient advocacy, leadership, teamwork, and makes a difference in a patient and/or family’s life.
