MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Annual Giving

Our Annual Giving donors are our most stalwart supporters – the ones who, year after year, step up to support MaineHealth Maine Medical Center's greatest needs and highest priorities. We are deeply grateful for their commitment.

Some give because they want to live in a community where everyone has access to the best care in the world, or because they understand how important a place like MaineHealth Maine Medical Center (MHMMC) is to the broader health of the state of Maine. Many of our donors have been patients at one of the MHMMC locations (Portland, Biddeford and Sanford) or have had loved ones who have been in our care. All of them believe in our mission of caring for our community, educating the caregivers of today and tomorrow, and researching new ways to provide care.

This generosity has had a real impact. The Annual Giving program raises funds to sustain and enhance important clinical programs and services throughout MHMMC – at all of our locations. Recent initiatives supported by annual donations include:

• Groundbreaking research on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tick- and mosquito-borne diseases at the vector-borne disease laboratory, helping improve the lives and experiences of thousands of people around our state and country
• Simulation training for cross-functional care teams, helping doctors, nurses and other caregivers practice high-stakes medical situations in a no-risk environment so they are ready to respond when real emergencies arise
• DEI and mental health/wellness programs for residents and fellows, which helps provide a sense of belonging and support during a rigorous part of their medical education
• A new music therapy pilot program for adult patients with dementia or neurocognitive needs – which has already helped increase social engagement, reduce agitation and care refusal, and improve quality of life and health outcomes for this vulnerable patient population
• Enhancements to our bariatric surgery program through the Da Vinci surgical robot, which has helped improve both the length of surgeries as well as patient experience and outcomes

How will my Annual Giving donation be used? 

When you make your donation, you can choose which of our three major initiatives – Patient Care, Education or Research – you want it to support, or you can opt for your gift to be "Unrestricted," which means it will be used wherever the need is greatest. How will my gift be recognized? 

Gifts of any amount help keep our community healthy. We are grateful for any and all support, and every gift is acknowledged in writing from the MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Philanthropy Department. Donor recognition groups include:

• President's Circle of Hope: $5,000 and above
• Leadership Circle: $1,000 to $4,499
• The Legacy Society: Honors and celebrates those individuals who have made a bequest or planned gift in their estate plan. In addition, Annual Giving donors who have given every year for 25 years are considered members of The Legacy Society. Each year, these donors are treated to a special luncheon with members of the MaineHealth Maine Medical Center senior leadership team. You'll get an insider's look at the medical center and its plans for the future.
