The MMC Cardiovascular Institute and the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital join together to provide comprehensive cardiac care to children born with congenital heart defects. It is the only complete cardiac program for children north of Boston and and features the only fellowship-trained pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon in the state of Maine.
According to the American Heart Association, about 35,000 babies are born each year with some type of congenital heart defect (approximately 9 out of every 1,000 live births), making it one of the most common birth defects and the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths. Our team provides advanced treatment for Maine’s children suffering with every kind of heart condition.
