ROCKPORT —Later this month, Pen Bay Medical Center will open the doors of its new Rockland Health Center, located within the Rockland Plaza at 75 Maverick St., when it opens its relocated Walk-in Care practice Saturday, October 19.
“We’re excited to open a health center in this new location, which is centrally located in the community we serve,” said Tyson Thornton, vice president of operations for Pen Bay and Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast. “This new location is a good example of the work we are doing to make it easier for patients to access the health care they need.”
Pen Bay Walk-in Care is currently located in the Bok Building at 6 White St. in Rockland and will close from October 15-18 as the team packs and relocates to the new space. The doors will open at the Maverick St. location on Saturday, October 19, at 8 am.
In addition to Walk-in Care, the new space will also house a primary care office and the hospital’s physical and occupational therapy (PT/OT) practices, as well as Health Connections, the hospital’s occupational health and safety department.
Primary Care, currently located with Walk-in Care inside the Bok Building, will close on Tuesday, October 15. Health Connections, currently located at 731 Commercial St. in Rockport, will close Friday, October 18. Both practices will reopen in the new space on Monday, October 21.
Physical and Occupational Therapy, which is currently located within the Physicians Building on the hospital campus, will close Wednesday, October 23, and reopen in Rockland on Monday, October 28.
“Having this group together will create opportunities for collaboration that will benefit our patients,” Thornton said. “For example, there are many patients who are referred from primary care to PT/OT, which now will be just down the hall. This creates opportunities for warm hand offs or ad-hoc conversation associated with patient progress.”
