Chapel/Quiet Room

Waldo County General Hospital’s chapel/quiet room is located on the second floor across from the elevator. The chapel is open 24 hours a day for reflection and prayer. There is a book in both chapels to make prayer requests that is read regularly by the Chaplain. At times when the Chaplain is not available, local clergy may be contacted by the hospital staff to provide support.

Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark.

A Collection of Prayers

Hildegard of Bingen
(1098-1179)

Holy Spirit,
giving life to all life,
moving all creatures,
root of all things,
washing them clean,
wiping out their mistakes,
healing their wounds,
you are our true life,
luminous, wonderful,
awakening heart
from its ancient sleep.

God has no body now on earth but yours
no hands but yours
no feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which he pours out,
compassion in the world.
His are the hands, blessing me now.
All praise to the one.
- St. Teresa of Avila -

And I saw the river over which every
soul must pass to reach the kingdom of heaven
and the name of that river was suff ering:
and I saw the boat which carries souls
across the river and the name
of that boat was love.
- Saint John of the Cross -

Strengthen me according to your Word,
Lead me gently into the light, holy God.
For I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
With trust in You, I can face my own darkness.
I will not run from the fears that beset me, so that
Each one may be transformed in your love.
- Psalm 119: A translation by Nan C. Merrill -

O Mary, you are the Mother of hope and the protector of your people. I put all my trust in you.
Keep me safe in the Heart of your Divine Son forever. Help me to rest in the shelter of your love. Amen.

Prayers Continued

Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And Wisdom to know the diff erence.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world As it is, not as I
would have it; Trusting that He will make things
all right If I surrender to His will; So that I may be
reasonably happy in this life And supremely
happy with Him Forever and ever in the next.
- Reinhold Niebuhr -

For a Nurse
May you embrace the beauty in what you do
And how you stand like a secret angel
Between the bleak despair of illness
And the unquenchable light of spirit.
May you never doubt the gifts you bring;
Rather, learn from these frontiers
Wisdom for your own heart.
- John O’Donohue -

Hold On
Hold on to what is good,
Even if it’s a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe,
Even if it’s a tree that stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do,
Even if it’s a long way from here.
Hold on to your life,
Even if it’s easier to let go.
Hold on to my hand,
Even if someday I’ll be gone away from you.
- A Pueblo Indian Prayer -

Yivarechicha - The Priestly Blessing
May G-d bless you and keep watch over you
May the light of G-d’s presence shine upon you and be gracious to you
May G-d’s presence be with you and grant you peace

Spirit of Life
Carolyn McDade

Spirit of Life, come unto me.
Sing in my heart all the stirrings of compassion.
Blow in the wind, rise in the sea;
Move in the hand, giving life the shape of justice.
Roots hold me close; wings set me free;
Spirit of Life, come to me, come to me.
- Unitarian Universalist -

Loving Kindness
May I be fi lled with loving kindness.
May I be safe from inner and outer dangers.
May I be whole in body and mind.
May I be at ease and at peace.
