More about our services

A mammogram is an x-ray of the breast designed to help find tumors that may be too small to feel. Mammograms are the best tool for early breast cancer detection and treatment.

Screening Mammogram

A screening mammogram is typically ordered by your health care provider as a preventative diagnostic tool. Talk to your doctor about when you should start regular mammogram screenings. Your preventive care plan depends on your age, risk factors and personal preferences.

If you have no signs or symptoms of breast disease, you may call 207-744-6079 directly to schedule a screening mammogram. Screening mammograms may also be scheduled via MyChart if your provider enters an order.

Diagnostic Breast Imaging

In about 10% of screening mammograms completed, changes in the breast are found that call for additional testing. Further studies may include a diagnostic mammogram, breast ultrasound or both.

A request for you to return for more imaging does not mean that you have cancer. For diagnostic mammograms and diagnostic ultrasounds, a radiologist will review your images and we will notify you of the results with a letter, and through your MyChart  account, if you have one. A report of the radiologist's findings or recommendations will also be sent to your health care provider.

Osteoporosis is a silent disease causing bones to thin, weaken and fracture.

Dexa testing for bone density is quick, painless and available  every weekday and often can occur when you are here for your mammogram exam. Scans measure hip bones and spine for changes in density or architecture. This allows early bone loss to be detected and for treatment to take place. We can then monitor the effectiveness of these measures with future scans.

Ask your primary care doctor if bone density testing is right for you.
