Our Services

Mammography Services

We Offer Screening and Diagnostic Mammograms. If you are a woman aged 40 or over - even though you have no signs or symptoms of breast problems - you should have an annual Screening Mammogram. A Diagnostic Mammogram is performed when a condition or problem - a breast lump, breast pain or other symptoms - has been identified by you and your physician.

Because early detection is the key to successfully fighting breast cancer, it is vital that every woman follow a regular schedule of breast examination. In the Women's Imaging Center at Stephens Memorial Hospital, we offer a full range of breast care services - diagnosis, education and treatment - in a supportive, respectful environment.

Many health insurance plans, including Medicare, cover mammograms. Check with your insurance provider for details. If you have no insurance or are under insured, you may qualify for a free mammogram. Ask your physician for more information.

The Most Advanced Technology Available

The Lorad Selenia is one of the most advanced mammography imaging machines in the world. Using state-of-the-art computer and full field digital technology, the Lorad Selenia system dramatically improves the image quality, allowing for more accurate readings. By enhancing the image quality of our mammograms our ability to detect early breast cancer is greatly improved.

If You Need a Biopsy

A change in your breast, such as an abnormality detected by a mammogram or a lump found by you or your doctor, may or may not be cancerous. If there is a change, a biopsy can determine if the area is malignant (cancerous) or benign (non cancerous). Through a biopsy, a sample of the breast tissue is removed for examination, this is the only definitive way to determine the presence of malignant tissue.

Fortunately, over 85% of biopsies result in a benign diagnosis. And even if the diagnosis is cancerous, early detection will allow for more treatment options, making a complete recovery much more likely.

Among its enhanced capabilities, the Lorad Selenia digital also eliminates the need for most surgical biopsies, by offering stereotactic breast biopsies. Far less invasive than surgery, a stereotactic biopsy can be scheduled as a day procedure.

Bone Density Services

Osteoporosis is a silent disease causing bones to thin, weaken, and fracture. The Women's Imaging Center at Stephens Memorial Hospital is pleased to have two certified technologists on staff.

Dexa testing for bone density is quick, painless and available two days a week at the Women's Imaging Center. Scans measure hip bones and spine for changes in density or architecture. This allows early bone loss to be detected and for treatment to take place. We can then monitor the effectiveness of these measures with future scans.
