A urine sample is usually collected in your health care provider’s office. Your provider will give you instructions and a container. The sample is then sent to a lab for analysis.
What do I need to do before the test?
Normally, you don’t need to do anything special before a urinalysis. You can eat and drink as usual before the test. In some cases your health care provider may want you to collect the urine in mid-stream or, collect the first urine of the day at home.
What do I need to know about my urinalysis results?
Your health care provider will discuss your results with you. Other tests may be ordered before a definitive diagnosis is given.
