For over 38 years, the Memorial Hospital Open Golf Tournament has rewarded participants, the hospital and the community by raising funds for needed equipment and community programs offered by Memorial, a not-for-profit 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in North Conway, N.H.

The first tournament was created in 1980 by the late Lee Harmon (1929-1995), then of the Jack Frost Shop, and former Christmas Farm Inn co-owner and future U.S. Rep. Bill Zeliff, 79, now of Jackson, Florida, and Washington, D.C., who served in Congress representing the First District from 1991-1997.

In 2019, the tournament will provide resources for behavioral health patients in our Emergency Department.

Due to the increasing number of behavioral health patients seeking treatment in our Emergency Department (ED), we have an immediate need to expand the number of beds. The ED is always the point of entry for those in crisis seeking psychiatric care. Our mission is to provide the highest level of care for all patients who enter the ED, whether they are in need of medical care or in a psychiatric crisis.

Due to the lack of available space in psychiatric hospitals, patients in our ED can wait for days or weeks for a bed. This situation also delays care for other community members seeking urgent treatment in the ED.

The proceeds of this year’s tournament will be the beginning of a community-based effort to support the needs of this vulnerable population.
