MaineHealth Behavioral Health at Spring Harbor offers family navigator and patient vocational support services thanks to generous sponsorship by the Lunder Family Alliance and Purdy family.

Helping patients and families through behavioral health hospitalization

All patients at MaineHealth Behavioral Health at Spring Harbor are eligible to receive family navigator and employment services. Support services are provided in collaboration with the patient's treatment team.

Services

The Purdy Hospital Family Navigator

Family navigators are clinical counselors and social workers dedicated to supporting families while their loved one is hospitalized, and for 30 days after discharge. Family navigators help families understand their loved one's treatment plan, how to support them and what to expect during and after hospitalization. Family navigators will:

  • Connect with families regarding their needs and provide expert and caring navigation during their loved one's hospital stay
  • Coordinate and work with patients’ families to address any issues, fears or challenges
  • Provide one-on-one support, resources, and education for families
  • Guide patients and families through community resource options
  • Support families for 30 days post discharge 

Vocational Specialists

Vocational specialists support hospitalized patients with:

  • Maintaining current employment or studies
  • Collaborating with current employers/educational institutions on accommodations 
  • Setting employment goals
  • Vocational assessments
  • Exploring different types of careers
  • Writing a resume and cover letter
  • Getting ready for interviews
  • Navigating workplace culture
  • Cultivating workplace social skills
  • Understanding and using employment benefits
  • Exploring and using resources for vocational training, continuing education, financial aid and more
