MaineHealth Maine Medical Center (MHMMC) is a multi-campus medical center with locations in Portland, Biddeford and Sanford. With a total of 929 licensed beds, MHMMC employs about 9,000 care team members working across a variety of specialized care, administrative and support functions, including clinical care delivery, medical education and research. MHMMC is accredited by the Joint Commission. MHMMC Portland has received Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence four consecutive times and is consistently recognized by US News and World Report as the Best Hospital in Maine.
MHMMC is part of MaineHealth, a not-for-profit integrated health system whose vision is “Working together so our communities are the healthiest in America.” As part of an integrated health system, MHMMC offers patients a network of care that includes world-class specialists, comprehensive pediatric care services, an extensive behavioral health care network, diagnostic services as well as home health, hospice and senior care services.
MHMMC operates locations in Portland, Biddeford and Sanford. The Portland location provides tertiary-level care and is verified as a Level I Trauma Center. The Biddeford and Sanford locations operate as community hospitals offering a variety of inpatient-based services.
MHMMC is also an academic medical center offering training and education to residents and fellows, medical students, nursing students, surgical technicians other professions.
MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, an acute care facility with 116 licensed beds and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, is housed at MHMMC Portland. Other commonly accessed services at MHMMC include emergency care, obstetrics & gynecology, cardiac and cardiovascular, pharmacy, medical oncology, surgery, radiology and more.
Communities We Serve
MHMMC primarily serves residents of Cumberland and York Counties in southern Maine. As a tertiary care center, patients come to MHMMC from across Northern New England for trauma services, specialty and sub-specialty care.
