More About Our Services

The MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital inpatient behavioral health unit treats patients with mental health conditions that require 24-hour care. The unit offers compassionate care, one-on-one and group therapy, and a range of treatments in a state-of-the art therapeutic facility. 

MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital provides integrated behavioral health care services at multiple locations, including our primary care and senior care locations.

Healthy Generations

MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital Behavioral Health offers compassionate care for people with substance use disorder (SUD) who are pregnant and/or parenting. We work collaboratively with care providers from MaineHealth Obstetrics and Gynecology Brunswick and MaineHealth Pediatrics Brunswick to develop personal treatment plans that support the health of patients and their babies.

Services include SUD treatment, smoking cessation, parenting classes, individual and family counseling, child development assessment as well as referral services. Services are provided in the home with the goal of supporting individual and family development by offering parents tools to live a positive, healthy life. Our care team often attends pre-natal and post delivery pediatric appointments at their clients request to assist with content, goals, and these important relationships.

Senior Behavioral Health Services

MaineHealth Behavioral Health Senior Outpatient Services Brunswick offers confidential screening, assessment and treatment services for adults 65 years of age and older. Our goal is to help older adults and their families understand and treat issues such as depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, and the grief and loss associated with late-life changes. Services are provided by a clinical social worker (LCSW), a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist. Services include:

  • Psychiatric evaluation
  • Psychiatric medication evaluation and management
  • Counseling
  • Group counseling
  • Substance use disorder education and counseling

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital Behavioral Health offers an intensive, short-term, daily program for people with psychiatric or substance use disorders who do not require full inpatient care. Designed to help people with mental illness and/or SUD develop skills for living, the program is customized to each patient's unique needs. Treatment ranges from four to five weeks and includes an intensive daily therapy schedule with individualized treatment plans, skilled nursing, psychiatry, medication management, group psychotherapy and the opportunity for family sessions. Electroconvulsive Therapy

MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital also offers electroconvulsive therapy for those experiencing severe depression.

The MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital emergency department is open 24/7 with two dedicated behavioral health treatment rooms - providing a safe and caring space for our care team to evaluate and treat people experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

Our behavioral health observation unit accommodates patients who experience long lengths of stay in the emergency department. The unit has three private rooms and a common area with a kitchenette, comfortable seating, and natural lighting. Patients are given a menu of calming and therapeutic amenities such as music, art supplies and spiritual care, to make their stay as comfortable as possible. The secure unit is staffed with behavioral health specialists who provide psychiatric consultation, compassionate care, and long-term planning support.
