Traditional Birthing in an Advanced Care Setting

Our team of certified nurse midwives practice in collaboration with the OB/GYN physicians to offer a full range of maternity care options to meet the needs and desires of every pregnant person.

Midwives provide the option for families to have a home-like birth, knowing that a full array of maternity services—including fetal monitoring, lab, anesthesiology, and physicians—are immediately available if needed.

Our midwives provide 24/7 care, working to ensure birth parents have every amenity available to make their birth experience as personal as possible.

Prenatal Care

We have welcomed thousands of babies and look forward to meeting yours. We believe that pregnancy is a state of wellness and follow the CenteringPregnancy® model of prenatal care. We bring groups of women, all due at around the same time, together for their care. This allows moms and providers to relax and get to know each other on a much deeper and more meaningful level. Members of the group form lasting friendships and are connected in ways not possible in traditional care.

We follow a recommended schedule of 10 prenatal visits, of which 6 are centering visits lasting 90 - 120 minutes. This group care approach gives women much more time with their provider. Moms engage in their care by taking their own weight and blood pressure and recording their own health data. Visits include private time with your provider for a belly check and to address any personal concerns.

Childbirth

The Family Birth Center at MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital provides comprehensive childbirth services in Brunswick, Maine. Our childbirth team is here to guide and support parents and family members through every stage of childbirth, from pregnancy through delivery and into parenthood.

Due to the unpredictable nature of deliveries, a doctor will attend your delivery to manage any complications. Most patients with high risk pregnancies remain under the care of our local doctors but occasionally we will refer the most complex, high-risk patients to MaineHealth Maine Medical Center.
