Dr. Mahmoud joined MaineHealth Nephrology in July of 2021. He completed his internal medicine residency at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center and his nephrology fellowship at Boston University.
Dr. Michael Akom is the managing physician of MaineHealth Nephrology. His clinical interests in nephrology are broad and he participates as one of the four transplant nephrologists in the MaineHealth Transplant Program. He completed internal medicine residency and the first portion of his fellowship at the University of Maryland. He subsequently completed fellowship at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center and joined the nephrology faculty. Dr. Akom is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Dr. Patricia Cantlin is the Medical Director of Casco Bay Dialysis Facility and has a broad range of clinical interests in nephrology, including renal disease in pregnancy and dialysis. She completed her internal medicine residency at Michael Reese Medical Center/University of Illinois Medical Centers in Chicago, and subsequently did nephrology fellowship at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Dr. I. Miha Cosma’s interests include interventional nephrology, and he is a hypertension specialist. He is also interested in translational research and clinical teaching. He completed both his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship training at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Arjang Djamali, MD, MS, FACP, FASN is Professor and Maurice S. Segal, MD, Chair of Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine, and Chair of the Department of Medicine at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Portland. He earned his medical degree from Montpellier Medical School in Montpellier, France. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI and his fellowship in nephrology at the University of Wisconsin Madison in Madison, WI. Dr. Djamali is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. Dr Djamali is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Transplantation, the American College of Physicians, and the Association of Professors of Medicine. He is considered a national leader in the areas of antibody-mediated processes and kidney transplant outcomes. Dr. Djamali has been funded by the NIH, Foundations, and Industry throughout his career. He has been a member of the NIH, VA-H, and national societies’ grant review panels, a member of advisory panels to the FDA and pharmaceutical industry, an invited speaker nationally and internationally, and a member of planning committees for national and international society meetings. Dr. Djamali has published more than 200 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and is the associate editor of Kidney360, the most recent publication from the American Society of Nephrology.
Dr. Oakley joined MaineHealth Nephrology in July of 2021. He completed his internal medicine residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, North Carolina. He is a graduate of the MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Nephrology Fellowship program.
Dr. Mark Parker is the Vice President of Quality and Safety for MaineHealth Maine Medical Center and the former director of the Division of Nephrology and Transplantation. He is a quality improvement specialist and is known nationally in nephrology for his work in medical education and workforce recruitment. His clinical areas of interest include resistant hypertension management and kidney transplantation. He completed his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Dr. Paul Parker is the Medical Director of York County Dialysis Center and has clinical interests that include chronic kidney disease, dialysis therapies, and nephrolithiasis. He completed his internal medicine residency at Hartford Hospital and his nephrology fellowship training at the University of Iowa Medical Center. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Dr. Eric Taylor is a nephrologist, clinical investigator, and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine. Since completing his nephrology training at Brigham and Women's Hospital in 2005, he has been Principal Investigator on five R01 NIH grants. He is currently a Physician Editor in nephrology for UpToDate. He is delighted to precept MaineHealth Maine Medical Center nephology fellows in their outpatient clinics.
Dr. James Wasserman is the Medical Director of Southern Maine Dialysis Facility. His clinical interests include chronic kidney disease and dialysis therapies. His research expertise is in the application of rehabilitation programs into therapy for kidney disease. He completed internal medicine residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and nephrology fellowship at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine.
